Ionia County is located in the central region of Michigan’s Lower Peninsula.
Major features of this county are its lazy, slow-moving rivers, including
the Grand, (the largest river in the state), and it’s tributaries, the Maple,
Flat and Looking Glass.
Bertha Brock Park was established in 1931 with donations of property from local
citizens, and initial development with the help of Michigan's Department of
Transportation. Early additions to the park, such as the picturesque stone
bridges and rustic Palmer Lodge, were built in the early 30's by the WPA.
Additional land and many improvements have been contributed by the Ionia
County Fishing & Hunting Club, whose own lodge is within the park boundaries.
